Laser Acne Treatment

Active acne breakouts can make you feel self-conscious about your skin, no matter your age.

Laser acne treatment kills bacteria, reduces oil production, and improves the complexion. It can also minimize visible scars.

Why should I consider laser acne treatment?

Treatment Is Fast, Safe, and Effective

It Fits Your Schedule

Most laser acne treatments can be performed in 15 to 30 minutes. There is very little recovery time, and most patients can return to their daily routine immediately after their treatment. Meanwhile, treatment can address active breakouts and scarring at once

It Is a Gentler, Safer Option

Some oral medications can have side effects such as nausea, increased blood pressure, and depression. Laser therapy results in minimal side effects, which should subside within a few hours or days. More serious side effects, such as blistering and changes in skin color, are rare.

It Works

The American Academy of Dermatology reports that most patients achieve clearer skin after undergoing laser acne treatment.

If You Suffer from Acne You Are Not Alone

Acne can continue to occur into your 30s and 40s.

What Does It Cost?

Laser acne treatment can range from as little as $75 to $1,000 per session depending on what type of laser is used. Most patients require four to eight treatment sessions total, and the procedure is not typically covered by insurance. However, most doctors accept financing to cover your total treatment cost.

A Typical Laser Acne Treatment Session

To begin, the doctor will thoroughly cleanse your face and apply a cooling cream to reduce any discomfort. Protective goggles will be used to shield your eyes.

A special handpiece will be used to treat small sections at a time. Patients can expect to feel a mild tingling and warming sensation.

The laser will attack bacteria, heat the glands under your skin to slow down oil production, and trigger new skin growth.

A moisturizing sunscreen will be applied before you go. Redness and swelling may persist for several hours or until the next day.

Medication and Other Skin Treatments

Topical treatments and oral medications have been in use for years, but not everyone responds well to these options. For example, antibiotics can cause nausea and reduce the effectiveness of birth control. Some patients are prescribed birth control for the express purpose of treating acne, but this can result in high blood pressure and blood clots. Isotretinoin is suspected to cause birth defects, and some patients who take this medication experience depression. Besides medication and laser treatment, microdermabrasion and specifically designed facials or peels can also address acne.

Talk to Your Doctor

While prescription acne medication can take six months or more to work, laser acne treatment can help you experience reduced scarring, fewer acne breakouts, and an overall clearer complexion in a matter of weeks. A dermatologist can determine the best way to treat your acne. Take the first step towards clearer skin by contacting a doctor today.
