Revitalize Your Appearance with a Facelift
Over time, gravity and age can combine to create an excess of sagging skin. Additionally, as the production of collagen in our bodies decreases, we more easily develop lines, wrinkles, and creases. Unfortunately, the face is one of the first areas to show these signs of aging.
If you hope to minimize these effects, you may benefit from a facelift at our Oklahoma City, OK, plastic surgery practice. Dr. James B. Lowe can provide both a traditional (SMAS) or mini facelift and performs every procedure in our on-site surgical suite for the convenience of our patients.
Exploring Facelift Candidacy
To qualify for a facelift, patients should be in good general health. During your initial consultation, Dr. Lowe will ask about your goals and review your medical history to ensure you do not have any health conditions that could undermine the success of treatment. It is also important that individuals seeking cosmetic surgery do not smoke, as the use of tobacco products can hinder the healing process.
Patients considering a facelift should have a full understanding of the treatment as well as realistic expectations regarding recovery. Most importantly, individuals should never seek this treatment to satisfy a partner. Cosmetic surgery is a personal decision and should only be performed to fulfill one’s own aesthetic goals.

How is a Facelift Performed?
The day of your procedure, Dr. Lowe will administer either intravenous or general anesthesia so that you can remain asleep and comfortable during surgery. To begin the facelift, he will make discreet incisions along the hairline and around the ears, although some additional ones may be necessary depending on your specific goals. To achieve the desired results, Dr. Lowe can then reposition, sculpt, and lift the underlying tissues. Finally, he will close the incisions with surgical sutures.
Recovery after a Facelift
Immediately following your procedure, bandages will be applied to minimize bleeding. Dr. Lowe may also place surgical drains to reduce swelling around the incisions.
Before you return home, you will be provided with post-operative guidelines, which will include information about cleaning and caring for the surgical sites. These instructions should be followed precisely to ensure a successful recovery.
Cosmetic surgery is a personal decision and should only be performed to fulfill one’s own aesthetic goals.
Once you are home, you should avoid strenuous activity until cleared by Dr. Lowe. However, it is important to take short walks around the house every few hours to reduce the risk of blood clots.
Patients can expect some degree of tenderness and discomfort following a facelift. However, these side effects can be managed with prescription medications and over-the-counter pain relievers.
Swelling and bruising may persist for several weeks. However, these symptoms will fade away over time. In most cases, patients can expect to see their final results within three to six months after their procedure.
