Gently Rejuvenate Your Appearance with an IPL Photofacial

Years of exposure to the sun and elements can damage the skin and age your appearance. If you are self-conscious about imperfections such as discoloration or acne scarring, you may benefit from an intense pulsed light or IPL™ photofacial. This treatment can gently improve your complexion to rejuvenate your appearance.

Dr. James B. Lowe offers IPL photofacials to address signs of aging and other concerns to both improve your skin and restore confidence. At Lowe Plastic Surgery in Oklahoma City, OK, we pride ourselves on providing a broad spectrum of treatments and compassionate care.

What is an IPL Photofacial?

An IPL photofacial is a non-invasive, light-based treatment that reaches deep within the skin to reduce signs of aging. While IPL treatments can be applied to many parts of the body, including the chest and arms, it is most effective for facial rejuvenation.

Is an IPL Photofacial Right for You?

An IPL photofacial is best suited to blemishes such as:

  • Acne scarring
  • Uneven skin pigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Birthmarks
  • Redness resulting from rosacea
  • Freckles
  • Veins
  • Large pores
  • Wrinkles or fine lines

However, this treatment is typically most effective for patients with lighter skin tones. Additionally, for patients in need of more extensive treatment, we may recommend a facelift or other facial cosmetic surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Lowe can determine whether an IPL photofacial will help you achieve your goals.

Are IPL Photofacials Safe?

While IPL photofacial treatments are approved by the FDA, there are some associated short-term side effects, such as:

  • Minor swelling
  • Redness
  • Increased visibility of small capillaries
  • Mild stinging
  • Itching

In very rare cases, you may be at risk of longterm side effects, such as blistering, hyperpigmentation, or bleeding. To minimize this risk, it is essential that you are open with Dr. Lowe about your medical history.

The Treatment Process

Before treatment, a member of our team will administer topical anesthetic to reduce discomfort. We will also provide special eyewear to protect your eyes from the flashing light. We will then apply a cool gel to counter the warming sensation of the hand piece that administers the light pulses.

Youthful, healthy-looking skin can improve your appearance, self-esteem, and even your quality of life.

An IPL photofacial session usually lasts about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area. Typically, it is recommended that patients undergo about three to five treatments, depending on the extent of skin damage.

After the Procedure

In most cases, you can return to your regular daily activities with no downtime. You should see gradual improvement in your complexion over the next few weeks. We usually recommend that patients wear sunscreen during the healing period to protect the treatment area.

Affordable Treatment with CareCredit

Many patients forgo life-changing cosmetic treatments due to budgetary concerns. To minimize this problem and make IPL photofacials more affordable, we offer CareCredit® financing as a payment method.
